Aciclovir is an antiviral medicine used to treat the herpes virus – it can be used to treat genital herpes, cold sores, and other herpes simplex infections, as well as chickenpox and shingles. Antiviral medicines act on infected cells by stopping the virus from growing.

How aciclovir treats herpes
These tablets contain 400mg of aciclovir, which works by preventing the herpes virus from multiplying, reducing the severity of the infection and stopping it from spreading. Aciclovir can also be prescribed to prevent herpes infections in people who have had them before or those with a weak immune system.

Directions
The recommended adult dosage for these 400mg aciclovir tablets is usually 2 per day, with an interval of 12 hours between. You should swallow these tablets whole with water, but if necessary you can dissolve the tablets in a glass of water, as long as it’s 50ml or more. You can take aciclovir tablets with or without food.
The dosage will depend on the type of herpes virus that you’re using aciclovir tablets for, as well as your age. When you’re prescribed this medicine by your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist, you will be given a recommended dosage dependent on your needs. You must always follow your doctor or pharmacist’s advice.
You should start taking aciclovir at the first signs of infection – this way, you should start to feel better after just a few days.
