What are Imodium IBS Relief Soft Capsules? 

Imodium IBS Relief Soft Capsules are an effective treatment against diarrhoea caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), as well as short-term diarrhoea attacks. These Imodium capsules contain 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide, helping to relieve diarrhoea quickly and effectively.

What is IBS? 

IBS is a common, long-term condition that affects the digestive system. Symptoms vary from person to person, but can include: 

Abdominal cramps

Bloating

Flatulence

Diarrhoea or constipation

These symptoms can be mild or severe and, whilst IBS doesn’t always have a specific cause, can be triggered by various factors including stress, anxiety, diet or hormonal changes. Identifying and managing triggers can help to reduce the frequency of your IBS flare ups. When your IBS does flare up, Imodium IBS Relief can help to relieve diarrhoea. 

How does Imodium IBS Relief work? 

Imodium IBS contains the 2mg of the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. When you are suffering with diarrhoea, your bowel can’t absorb fluid like it usually does. Loperamide tablets work by calming the overactive bowel, allowing it to absorb fluid and relieve your diarrhoea symptoms.

What is the recommended dosage?

It is important to note that the dosage for Imodium IBS Relief – particularly how long you can take it for – is slightly different depending on whether your diarrhoea is short-term, or caused by IBS that has been diagnosed by your doctor. 

For relief of diarrhoea caused by IBS: 

Adults over 18 should take two capsules to start treatment, then one capsule after each loose bowel movement (or as advised by your doctor). 
IBS sufferers can use Imodium IBS Relief for up to two weeks for repeat attacks, but do not take for any one attack lasting longer than 48 hours. You must not take more than 6 tablets in a 24-hour period. 

For relief of short-term diarrhoea:

Adults and children over the age of 12 should take two capsules to start treatment, then one capsule after each loose bowel movement. 
Do not take for attacks lasting longer than 48 hours. You must not take more than 6 tablets in a 24-hour period.

When suffering from diarrhoea you should replace lost fluids by drinking more liquid than you usually would, or by using dehydration relief.

Who should take Imodium IBS Relief Soft Capsules? 

Imodium IBS Relief is suitable for most adults the age of 12. Do not take these tablets if: 

You have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients

If you are having a flare up of an inflammatory bowel condition, such as ulcerative colitis. 

If you have severe diarrhoea after taking antibiotics. 

If you are constipated, or your stomach appears swollen 

If you have acute dysentery, the symptoms of which include blood in your stools and a high temperatur

If you suffer from IBS, you must speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking Imodium IBS if: 

You are aged over 40 and it has been some time since your last IBS attack

You are aged over 40 and your IBS symptoms have changed

You have recently passed blood from your bowels

You suffer from severe constipation

If you are feeling nauseous or vomiting

If you have lost your appetite or lost weight

If you have difficulty or pain passing urine

If you have a fever

If you have recently travelled abroad

You should speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking Imodium IBS Relief if you suffer from liver disease or AIDS, or if you have diarrhoea that is severe or lasts more than 48 hours. You should also speak to your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking Imodium IBS Relief if you take any of these medicines: 

Ritonavir (used to treat HIV)

Quinidine (used to treat abnormal heart rhythms or malaria)

Oral desmopressin (used to treat excessive urination)

Itraconazole or ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infections)

Gemfibrozil (used to treat high cholesterol)

Are loperamide tablets suitable for children?

Should I take Imodium IBS Relief if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding? 

Consult your doctor or Chemist4U pharmacist before taking Imodium IBS Relief if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are trying to become pregnant. Do not take loperamide tablets if you are breastfeeding, as small amounts of the medicine can get into your milk. 

Are there any side effects?

As with all medicines, Imodium IBS Relief Soft Capsules may cause side effects in some people. Most side effects aren’t serious and you may not experience any at all. 

Common side effects include: 

Feeling sick

Constipation

Excessive gas

Headache 

Uncommon side effects include: 

Dizziness

Drowsiness

Vomiting

Indigestion

Dry Mouth

Tiredness
