Salbutamol CFC-Free inhalers are medication delivery devices used to treat breathing problems such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). These inhalers are CFC-free, meaning they do not use chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which are harmful to the environment. They are easy to use and provide quick relief of symptoms by directly delivering medication into the lungs. Plus, with their lightweight design and portability, they can easily be taken on the go for fast symptom relief whenever it’s needed.

We require evidence of your asthma diagnosis to provide this treatment. When we cannot view your NHS Summary care record, we will need a photo of your repeat medication slip showing your prescribed salbutamol inhaler, or a screenshot of your medication in your NHS/Patient Access app.

How salbutamol inhalers treat breathing difficulties

These inhalers contain the active ingredient salbutamol, a type of bronchodilator that helps to relax the airways and improve breathing. Breathing conditions like asthma and COPD cause inflammation in your airways, making it more difficult for you to breathe. By widening your airways, salbutamol helps to relieve short-term symptoms like asthma attacks as well as the long-term symptoms associated with these conditions.

Directions

Before taking your salbutamol inhaler you should fold down the cap that fits over the mouthpiece. If you’re using the inhaler for the first time, fire two test sprays into the air before use. When you’re ready to use your inhaler, follow these steps:

  • 1. Shake the inhaler vigorously.
  • 2. Hold the inhaler upright and fold down the mouth cap.
  • 3. Breathe out as far as you can naturally. Put the mouthpiece of the inhaler between your lips and breathe in slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece. Don’t stop once the inhaler has puffed the dose into your mouth, continue until you have taken a deep breath.
  • 4. Take the inhaler out of your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds or for as long as you comfortably can.
  • 5. Close the cap right away. If you need to take a second puff, wait for one minute between doses and then repeat these staps.

Dosage

The right dose of salbutamol for you will be decided by your prescriber, but the manufacturer recommends some dosing guidelines for adults and children. Depending on what you intend to use your inhaler for, adults and adolescents older than 12 will usually take this medication as follows:
